Adolescent girls in India are often neglected and ignored. A group that accounts for nearly 11 percent of the Indian population is often abused and vulnerable to early marriage.?According to the United Nations Population Fund?(UNFPA), four million adolescent girls in India ages 15-19 years give birth every year in India. Now there is greater attention being given to adolescent pregnancy and the the rising mortality rates due to complications of childbirth during pregnancy. ?The issues of poverty, child marriage, and a lack of access to adequate education results in lost opportunities for the young girls. In addition,?access to clean sanitation and hygiene can prevent up to 45% of health issues affecting young girls.
