Making Its Mark On African Fashion: MAKSI Clothing
We have all been extremely enthusiastic about emerging trends on the continent, and the wealth of talent that exists is only a reminder that we still have a long uncharted road ahead of us. In the latest move to showcase African fashion and design talent, fashion forward and proudly Ghanaian sisters Abynnah and Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah launched MAKSI Clothing?s first stand alone shop in East Legon, Accra. After celebrating five years in the fashion business the label has been at the forefront of the ready to wear market in Ghana and is making waves across the continent. MAKSI Clothing is a unisex fashion label, which creates ?fab, fresh and funky? clothing, with the label?s menswear collection exclusively designed by Thomas Dzator. The label has its home in Ghana, and maintains a global reach through trunk shows and exclusive events held across the continent and the Diaspora, from South Africa to Antigua and London. From embroidered shirts for men, to chiffon, print and leatherette mixed dresses for today?s contemporary woman; MAKSI will continue to make a mark on the fashion industry in Ghana.
To coincide with the launch of the boutique, ?MAKSI?also launched their new collection, dubbed ‘Sous La Mer‘ (which means ?under the sea? in French). The collection takes inspiration from the vibrant colors found in the ocean as well as the smooth flow of low tides. It incorporates vibrant African prints and soft flowing fabric, to give the silhouette a sensual feel.
The MAKSI fashion boutique seeks to provide customers with the opportunity to interact directly with the brand and aims to ensure a superior customer experience. Abynnah Sekyiamah, MAKSI?s Head of Creative Concepts stated, ?I want people to be able to walk into the shop, try on clothing and interact with our staff whilst having an enjoyable experience. We put a lot of love into the creation of our clothing, and we want our customers to feel that same emotion when they visit us.?
When asked what the future holds for MAKSI, Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah stated, ?MAKSI is moving on to bigger and better things. In 2015 we are going to start holding monthly events for our customers and friends. These can be thought of as ?Fashion Plus? events with a focus on entrepreneurship, sexuality and books. This will be an opportunity for our customers to not only learn about fashion, but those essential life skills that inspire us.?
We see you, MAKSI, and we look forward to your continued success!
