Ethiopian Women Are Leading In The Country’s Aviation Industry
It will be history in the making in Ethiopia, particularly for Ethiopian Airlines.
The company announced that it will operate an ?all-women functioned flight? on Thursday, November 19 on its Addis Ababa – Bangkok route. In other words, women will be running the show for the first time in 70 years.
Ethiopian Airlines isn?t playing.
From air traffic controllers to the cabin crew, women will be at the helm of decision making across key technical, managerial and operational areas in the aviation field. Mothers are also included in this new change, with nursing rooms readily available with modernized amenities like reclining chairs and refrigerators to store breast milk and electronic breast pumps.
The benefits of this move are hard to ignore. For one, it helps to fulfill the country?s economic goal of ?Women Empowerment for a Sustainable Growth?. It also opens up the doors of opportunity for young African female women who may decide to become aviation professionals. In a press release, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam further stated:
[themify_quote]It is a great honor for us to have competent Women Aviation Professionals at Ethiopian in every aspect of the aviation field, which portrays Ethiopian as gender responsive organization that strives to pursue its underlying stance of being an equal opportunity employer. We are very proud of their achievements and contributions and it is our sincere belief that this will continue with an enhanced magnitude and passion to sustain Ethiopian on its fast growth trajectory. We invite the whole world to watch our all-female operated long haul flight to and from Bangkok.[/themify_quote]
